Cross Stitch

skeins of thread and scissors for embroidery

Cross stitch is a type of embroidery where you make X-shaped stitches on a page in order to build up a picture or pattern. Many beginners start on a type of fabric called Aida, which uses a pattern of square holes that make it easier to place your stitches neatly, even without much experience.

Many cross stitch projects following a specific kit, which includes fabric, thread, a needle, a chart (for counted cross stitch) and instructions. However, especially as you gain more experience, you can create your own designs from scratch as well.
